This is a short page explaining what and where is the S.V.Q.L.
The SVQL was founded in 1981, the first season being 1981 - 1982.
The league consists of one division of fifteen teams (at the moment), this can change from year to year. Each team plays all the other teams, the usual league stuff, and also a knockout competition continues during the year.
The matches are played on Thursday nights, during September to May, with a break at Christmas and Easter, in pubs around Disley, Hayfield, New Mills, Whaley Bridge and Chapel-en-le-Frith on the Cheshire/Derbyshire (England) border.
If you feel that there are regulars in your pub that may be interested please read on.
The main purpose of this organisation is to draw people into pubs and have a good time. During the season each team sets the questions for one of the nights that they are not playing. All the other teams that night use the same set of questions. Matches start about 9 o’clock, there are 60 questions asked to the whole team, maximum of six players, at no time is anyone asked a question personally. If you are worried that your team may not be good enough, then don't, need I say more?
Subscription is £10 per team per year, for that you get approx 30 quizzes and all the paper work such as league results and tables plus fixture list, and any shields you may pick up. That works out to be about 6p per player per match, not bad value.
There is obviously some commitment to this, if you should decide to enter a team they must be willing to play the whole season, currently about 30 weeks including the knockout matches.
Please e-mail us if you have any questions, or come along to the next AGM.
If you wish to e-mail the league then please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or you can leave a message on the league phone on 07999 559 660. We will try to get back to you as soon as possible, but in summer there may be a delay.
